What Malaʻe Productions contributed

Malaʻe Productions served as Director of Photography on Wild Hawaii: Secrets of the Deep and contributed cinematography and stock video to this National Geographic / PBS exploration of Hawaii's most remote underwater ecosystems.

Underwater cinematography is one of our core disciplines. We shoot RED Digital Cinema cameras in Nauticam housings for RED DSMC2 and DSMC3, with ports, monitors and underwater lighting, and reach open ocean and reef locations from our own channel-crossing fishing boats based at Keauhou Harbor on the Kona coast and at Kawaihae. Macro work for marine life and a GoPro fleet for multi-angle coverage round out the marine kit.

The stock video contribution comes from one of the largest private collections of 4K and 8K Hawaii footage in existence — marine, fauna, scenic, volcanic and surf subjects gathered over two decades in the field. Humpback whales, whale sharks and tiger sharks are among the archive's marine subjects, so a sequence a production needs may already exist.

For documentary and broadcast work in Hawaiian waters we provide Directors of Photography, underwater and aerial crews and the full equipment package from our Big Island base, with crews and rentals available on every island.
