Video Production & Drone Services on Maui

Malaʻe Productions supports Maui productions from its Big Island base with the same RED, Shotover, DJI and Nauticam inventory used on its broadcast work, moved to Maui for the shoot and operated by crews who have filmed Hawaii's natural world since 2003.

Humpback whales in Hawaiian waters are a recurring subject in our aerial and underwater reels — humpbacks from the air, newborn calves taking their first breaths — and Maui's whale season is exactly the natural history work the DJI Inspire 3, the Nauticam housings and our wildlife-approach boats were assembled for. Whale shark encounters and shark sequences round out the marine archive.

From summit zones to rainforest, the drone fleet is built for the environments Maui presents: the summit of Haleakalā for time lapse of night skies and weather, the bamboo forest already in our photography portfolio, waterfalls, coastline and open ocean. Milky Way arcs and multi-day weather sequences run on programmable motion control with high-sensitivity full-frame cameras.

The same crew delivers full-service video production for natural history documentaries, commercials and broadcast, with credits at National Geographic, PBS Nature, Discovery, ABC, NBC and CBS. If the sequence you need already exists, our 4K and 8K Hawaii stock footage library — scenic, landscape, flora, fauna, surf, volcanic and marine subjects — may save the trip.

Drone operations under FAA Part 107

Aerial work is flown under FAA Part 107. We handle airspace authorizations, LAANC approvals and restricted-zone waivers, including coastal airspace, so the production is compliant from day one. Aerial reconnaissance and location scouting document access points, lighting windows and conditions before a crew arrives, and Autel thermal drones are available for wildlife surveys and low-light scouting.

Shipping, logistics and pricing

We regularly move packages to Maui and plan multi-island productions; we coordinate transport for larger gear packages, so send shoot dates and islands and we arrange the logistics. On the Big Island, pickup is at Keauhou, Hilo or Waimea. Price match guarantee: bring a quote from any Hawaii camera or production equipment rental house and we will beat or match it, from a single lens to a full production package.
