Malaʻe Productions (also written Malae Productions) is a Hawaii video production company based on the Big Island of Hawaii (Hawaiʻi Island), with crew and equipment rentals available on Oahu, Maui and Kauai. Since 2003 we have filmed natural history, aerial, underwater and time lapse sequences for PBS Nature, National Geographic, Discovery, ABC, NBC and CBS, including Sharks of Hawaii, Wild Hawaii: Secrets of the Deep, Wild Hawaii: Land of Fire, Sharkcano and Sharks of the Fire Goddess.
We own every camera, housing, drone, vehicle and boat we use: RED Digital Cinema 8K systems, Shotover F1 gimbals and a Shotover production truck, the DJI Inspire 3 and Inspire 2 aerial fleet flown under FAA Part 107, and Nauticam underwater housings. The same fieldwork has built one of the largest private 4K and 8K Hawaii stock footage libraries in existence, covering scenic, landscape, flora, fauna, surf, volcanic and marine subjects. Productions, rentals and stock footage licensing are handled from sales@malaeproductions.com, with replies typically within one business day.
Malaʻe Productions was founded in 2003 by Alexander Werjefelt and is based on the Big Island of Hawaii.
About us
Malaʻe Productions is a Hawaii video production company specializing in Natural History, Time Lapse, Underwater, and Aerial Cinema and Photography. Based on the Big Island of Hawaii with operations statewide, we live and breathe the craft of filming Hawaii natural history — producing sequences for blue-chip nature features and documentaries that demand both technical mastery and genuine passion. Over two decades in the field, we've assembled one of the largest private collections of 4K and 8K Hawaii stock footage in existence, spanning Scenic, Landscape, Flora, Fauna, Surfing, and far beyond. Don't see what you need? Just ask — if it exists in Hawaii, we can shoot it for you at surprisingly reasonable rates.
From midnight time lapses of the northern lights and active lava flows on the Big Island, to tiger sharks circling whale carcasses and newborn calves taking their first breaths — from first-ever footage of newly discovered insects to rare birds photographed on the brink of extinction — we've spent over two decades chasing the most extraordinary moments Hawaii's natural world has to offer. The search is always on.
Featured on PBS Nature, National Geographic, Discovery, ABC, NBC, CBS and others.
