Sharks of the Fire Goddess (Discovery Channel) — Malaʻe Productions credit

Role: Director of Photography, Cinematography, Stock Video & Equipment Rentals

Led underwater and aerial cinematography for this Discovery Channel special documenting Hawaii's legendary Tiger Sharks in the volcanic waters of the Big Island.

What Malaʻe Productions contributed

Malaʻe Productions led the underwater and aerial cinematography for Sharks of the Fire Goddess as Director of Photography, and supplied stock video and equipment rentals to this Discovery Channel special documenting Hawaii's legendary tiger sharks in the volcanic waters of the Big Island.

This credit grew out of the volcanic and marine subjects we film at home. Our boats are based at Keauhou Harbor on the Kona coast and at Kawaihae, with a Zodiac inflatable for the surf zone, and underwater sequences are shot on RED Digital Cinema cameras in Nauticam housings with ports, monitors and lighting. Aerial coverage is flown under FAA Part 107 on the DJI Inspire 3 and Inspire 2, with airspace authorizations and coastal waivers handled by us.

Tiger sharks are a long-running subject in our archive — including the exclusive footage of tiger sharks feeding at a whale carcass off the Big Island — so stock video for a shark production can draw on existing 4K and 8K material as well as new photography.

Equipment support came from the inventory that lives on the island: the RED fleet, Shotover F1 gimbals, underwater housings and lighting, motion control and lens packages, available with or without an operator.
