Role: Director of Photography, Cinematography, Stock Video & Equipment Rentals
Captured the raw volcanic landscapes of the Big Island as Director of Photography, combining cinematography, stock library footage, and full equipment support.
What Malaʻe Productions contributed
Malaʻe Productions was Director of Photography on Wild Hawaii: Land of Fire, capturing the raw volcanic landscapes of the Big Island for National Geographic / PBS and combining cinematography, stock library footage and full equipment support in one credit.
The Big Island is our home and the island where most of our natural history work is made. The volcanic portfolio behind this credit includes active eruption sequences at Kīlauea shot on RED 8K S35, lava ocean entries filmed from the air, week-long volcanic eruption time lapses, volcanic lightning, and a Ronin 2 rig working the lava field. Getting there is part of the kit: UTVs and 4x4 trucks with production storage, and Part 107 drone operations with the DJI Inspire 3 and Inspire 2.
Stock footage came from our 4K and 8K Hawaii library, whose volcanic subjects were gathered over two decades on this island. Equipment support drew on the inventory that lives here: the RED fleet, two Shotover F1 gimbals, Nauticam housings, motion control, lighting and lens packages.
The same Director of Photography, cinematography, stock footage and rental services are available for volcanic, landscape and natural history productions on the Big Island and statewide.
